Meet ✨Tonka!✨
Tonka is a jet-black, 3-year-old QH/Friesian cross gelding standing right around 15.1–15.2hh. From the moment he stepped into our barn, he has been a breath of fresh air. He is incredibly fun, sensible, and wise beyond his years. Tonka truly has the best attributes of both breeds — curves for days, good conformation, and stunning looks. He’s a lighter-built cross, making him super versatile for a variety of disciplines!
He’s been started Western, English, bareback, and has been started to drive. His work has stayed light at this age since he’s still maturing, but Tonka is the kind of smart that genuinely loves to learn and picks things up so fast. On the ground, he is an absolute lover with a young, vibrant personality you can’t help but fall in love with. 🤩
In the ring, Tonka already has a great start. He stands quietly to mount from the block or the ground, has a nice forward walk, a lovely adjustable little trot, and a rocking-horse canter to die for. He’s naturally balanced, gets the correct leads every time, can easily walk to canter, and is light and responsive to ride. He’s started going with some connection, moving off the leg, and learning to use himself properly. He’s comfortable, safe, has no bad habits, and is truly at a point where he could go in any direction and succeed — he’s a showstopper. ⭐️
This guy comes with solid brakes and will stop on a dime off your seat or a voice cue. Tonka is an absolute superstar with a great work ethic and a true will to please. He’s had lots of “craziness” thrown at him and continues to be nothing short of impressive. He’s seen tarps, smoke, equipment, traffic, dogs, flags, chickens, mini bikes, cows, pigs, ground poles, and he’s even walked through fire without batting an eye. He’s brave and confident while still being quiet, forgiving, and able to take a joke or rider mistake.☺️
On the trail, Tonka will happily lead or follow. He loads right up into the trailer and genuinely enjoys going on adventures. He’ll ride the winding wooded trails or canter out in open fields. He crosses water, logs, and bridges, and is used to hikers, dogs, bikers, and all the wildlife you find on busy trails. He’s an especially fun ride to take out and would absolutely excel at fox hunting or paper chasing. Even though he’s young, he’s wise beyond his years and is safe, reliable, and the same horse every ride.
In the barn, Tonka is such a fun guy. He’s curious and a little nosey in the best way!😅 He always wants to know what you’re up to, and he’ll inspect everything! He thrives on attention and will stand on the crossties all day to be groomed, tacked, and loved on. He has good manners for the vet and farrier, picks up his feet easily, is quiet and well-behaved in his stall, and easy to handle for turnout and bring-in. He’ll literally run up when he sees you in the pasture! 😆
Tonka LOVES to play with the other young geldings and has a big personality that will keep you laughing. While he’s still young and learning, we truly couldn’t ask for a better young horse. He’s incredibly special, and we only see great things in his future. We’re looking for the absolute best home for this goofy, one-of-a-kind gelding. 🩶
