Cochise is a handsome, 11-year-old gaited Walkaloosa gelding who stands 14.1 hands tall (technically 14.1 and ½ inches). Cochise has spent the last few years as a lesson horse, helping people of all ages learn to ride gaited trail horses. Lately, we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy him ourselves. My 8-year-old daughter has taken Cochise on several riding trips and absolutely loves every minute of it. As you’ll see in the video, Cochise loves people. I find him very trustworthy on the ground. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you see my kids climbing all over him. Beyond being a sweetheart, he’s also a stellar trail mount. He isn’t spooky in any way and is happy to ride anywhere in the group or head out alone. He has a smooth gait and a nice, rocking-chair canter. Everyone knows a naturally gaited Appaloosa is as rare as hen’s teeth, but to find one with such a sweet personality makes him even more special. He loads easily into the trailer and stands calmly in the cross-ties for grooming. In fact, he loves standing in the cross-ties with a fan blowing on him while the kids pamper him. Cochise may not be the biggest horse on the trail, but he keeps up with the best of them without any issue. As I said above, I truly believe this horse is a rare find, and I’m proud to represent him.
