Meet Brakes—her name truly says it all! With a big, fancy stop, she’s as unique as they come. At 11 years old and standing 14.2 hands tall, this thick, beautiful mare has been a cherished member of our family for the past five years. We know her inside and out, and she has played a vital role in raising our boys, teaching them to rope and instilling the confidence they needed to become skilled horsemen. Brakes is an absolute gem! Having seen and done it all, she’s safe and reliable, making her perfect for riders of any level. Whether it’s the kids learning to ride, or mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa taking a spin, you can feel secure knowing she’s got everyone covered. She has been our go-to mare at the sale barn for years, expertly penning cattle, sorting, and loading trucks. On the ranch, she’s helped catch cattle and has had thousands roped on her out in the open. Plus, she’s a finished heel horse that any level roper can enjoy!
Brakes has been to countless jackpots, bringing home money, saddles, and buckles, and our boys have proudly ridden her in local town parades, rodeo grand entries, junior rodeos, and playdays. One of the best things about her is that you can leave her off for months, and when you hop back on, she’s ready to go! Exceptionally broke, she rides one-handed, has a big sliding stop, carries a flag, and even rides bareback. In the arena, Brakes will walk, trot, and lope in beautiful circles on a loose rein. She side-passes over to open gates, neck reins like a pro, and moves off your legs with ease. On the trail, she’s simply exceptional—going wherever you point her and crossing everything from water to bridges, downed logs, and brush.
We are truly sad to let her go, but we know her next family will love and cherish her just like we have. Brakes is adaptable too; she can live out in a mixed herd or be stalled. This mare is everything you could ever dream of and more—a true treasure that everyone searches for. If you’re looking for a companion who will bring joy to your family, Brakes is the one!
