Ricky Bobby is a 6 year old Spotted Draft x Quarter Horse gelding standing 16.1 hands high. He has every button and fancy move you could ever want, while having the motto “Slow and steady wins the race” the entire time. He has a slow lope like a Quarter Horse, with the brain and mentality of an old draft horse. He will side pass, pivot, and do a dressage test just as well as he will ride the kids around double, take the husband on a trail ride, or jump around the cross country course or hunt field. He is a horse that can truly be for every single member of the family. The more experienced riders will appreciate his education and buttons, where the kids and beginners will enjoy his kindness and gentle nature. Draft crosses like him are few and far between, by the time you’ve done half a lap around the arena you will already be in love.
In the ring, Ricky is one of a kind. You will want to canter him around all day long. You never see a draft cross with a slow lope like his! You can ride him round and in the bridle, or on a loose rein, and he will go around at whatever pace you set. He knows all of the lateral work, side passes, shoulder in, and leg yielding. He will canter off from a standstill, has a nice big western stop, and picks up both leads. He is adjustable, soft, and overall a dream on the flat. The kids ride him in lessons and love to take him out on hacks around the farm! A timid first time rider can learn and gain confidence on him, and a more experienced rider can enjoy his education and ask more from him.
Off property and on the trails, Ricky Bobby is sturdy and reliable. He’s used to going off property to attend clinics, trail rides, hunter paces, and camping trips. He rides out alone, in a group, and is the same on or off property. He stands on and tied to the trailer, and is easy to load up and go anywhere with. On the cross country course, Ricky Bobby is brave and honest. He is trustworthy and loves to jump! He has jumped all the fences on the course, and has seen rock walls, ditches, coupes, and more. On the trails, he swims, crosses water, is safe in traffic, and is used to riding around livestock and wildlife.
In the barn, Ricky is kind and gentle. He knows his size and is mindful of the children running around under his feet. He is a good boy for all of the usual barn tasks, and loves getting any and all attention. Ricky is an easy keeper that is happy living inside or out. He gets along well with others in the pasture, is easy to catch, and is overall a pleasure to have around the farm.
