Stoney is a striking 6yr old grulla roan gelding, standing 15.1hh, and is the type of horse that will mostly definitely stand out from the crowd. This gelding is exceptionally broke in all aspects of ranch work and most importantly knows how to do it safely. He certainly has lots to offer- eye appeal, ability, and versatility. Stoney is one you can ride with confidence knowing that you’ll be taken care of and the job will get done. With such willingness, there isn’t much you can ask of him that he won’t do, or at least try to do. He has an incredible mindset, and kind demeanor that will make you truly appreciate the effort he will put in for you as a rider.
Stoney has a pretty broad resume when it comes to ranch work, we have doctored cattle out in the pasture, used him to check on calves, he has also been useful gathering/sorting cattle. He knows what a hard days work is and isn’t afraid to carry out any challenging task. We raise a variety of cattle but mostly Brahman cattle- with that being said Stoney is used to flighty, snorty cows trying to test him from time to time out in the pasture. He will hold his own, never shying away, but always making sure his rider is safe. He is the mount you can always count on. He will stay quiet in hectic situations, handles pressure with ease, all while keeping his composure.
On his back, Stoney moves willingly off your hand and leg, making him pretty easy to ride and enjoy. He is smooth to ride and has a good stop to him. He has a handle that makes navigating through some pretty rough country easier. Whether that be muddy, boggy terrain, steep rocky inclines, or belly deep water- he stays surefooted at all cost. This is a young gelding with the mind of an older, seasoned pro. In today’s world, those are getting harder and harder to find with such qualities.
Aside from long days working on the ranch, Stoney is also a dependable trail horse. He has packed a variety of riders, from the novice to the experienced. He confidently rides out alone or in a group. He is content to lead the pack or follow in the rear. Stoney is exposed daily to a variety of animals/wildlife- dogs that love to follow, goats running loose, water buffalo, and the occasional deer running out.
On the ground he is easy to saddle, groom/bathe, and will stand tied patiently. You can keep him stalled or turned out- turned out he gets alone great with a mixed herd, so no worries there. He trailers fantastically, lead him up to the trailer and he’ll hop on himself.
Stoney is an exceptional gelding with lots of willingness, patience, and honesty that will set him apart from many others.
He is 100% sound and sells with a recent PPE. He has zero bad habits.
