From the hush of a canyon trail to the clang of a feed yard gate, he stays unbothered and unfazed.
We’ve used Fonzie in the feedlot, on the river, in the canyons, and through town. He’s sorted pairs, loaded trucks, gathered wheat pasture calves, and trail ridden through places that make other horses stutter. He’s been used on the ranch for sorting cattle and pulling calves, and he’s always up for the job. This gelding has spent so many afternoons patiently tied while we processed cattle, gates slammed, and four-wheelers buzzed past. No pawing. No pacing. No pressure. We’ve ridden him through town and into a Sonic stall to grab food—he stood there like he ordered the combo himself.
Fonzie is a 2016 AQHA gelding by Heart of the Cartel, a son of Corona Cartel, one of the most influential sires in modern QH racing with over $70M in earnings. His dam is by Flit Bar Beggar, a direct son of Flit Bar—a name known for producing sound, smart, all-around horses that could hold their own on the ranch or in the arena. That bottom side adds the kind of bone and sense that make him last. Fonzie stands a true 15.1 hands and is built exactly how an American Quarter Horse ought to be. He’s got a strong shoulder, wide chest, short cannon bones, straight legs, a kind eye, good back, and a hip that’ll strike up all kinds of envy. If AQHA had a hallway of models, he’d be in it. He is sound and healthy, with records available upon request.
In the arena, Fonzie rides the part too. Will pick right up into the correct lead, lopes collected or on a draped rein, has a good stop, an easy turnaround, and rides right between your hands and legs. You don’t need an instruction manual to ride Fonzie—he’s user-friendly, responsive without being too much, and consistent with or without regular riding. He’s not one you’ve gotta pedal through the pasture or push down the trail.
Fonzie has been hauled alone and with company, across town and across state lines. He’s been ridden in the mountains of New Mexico, the state parks of Texas, and along the banks of the Canadian River. My niece rode him all through DV State Park, across water, up and down rough ground, over logs and bridges. He’s been exposed to trains, tractors, and the kind of surprises that come with real riding. He doesn’t need lunging. He doesn’t need warming up. He’s been ridden after weeks off and never offered to act fresh.
On the ground, he’s a complete gentleman. He stalls quietly, trailers like a veteran, and will stand tied all day without fuss. Walks up to meet you in the pasture, lowers his head for the halter, and stands still to be saddled. He’s good with other horses and even better with people. No babysitting, no drama. Just one of those horses that makes day-to-day life easier.
Maybe your kid’s home from college and wants to ride again. Or your spouse finally says, “I’ll go with you.” Fonzie’s the one you hand them the reins to—without hesitation. He’s the type that forgives you for being human—when your timing’s off, your hands are uneven, or your mind’s a thousand miles away. Say you’re headed out alone, need to check a back fence line, or clear your head. You don’t want a project, you want something steady. Fonzie’s the one you catch. The kind of horse that makes you want to load up and go somewhere, just for the excuse to ride him. That’s what owning Fonzie feels like.
Fonzie is located in Amarillo, TX.
Come throw a leg over. Bring a cherry limeade—he’s got a soft spot for Sonic.
Need help with hauling? We know good folks and can help arrange transport anywhere.
We don’t list average horses. Fonzie’s the kind people talk about for all the right reasons. No sales pitch. No gimmicks. Just a good one, plain and simple.
