Rio da Norinha – a dressage horse for the highest standards! Absolute rideability paired with willingness to perform and three excellent gaits make Rio a horse in a class of his own! Rio has enjoyed a classical training and already masters the half-pass, jumps first series changes, piaffe and pirouette! Everything comes easily to him and he is always highly focused! He already has competition experience and always concentrates on his rider, even in unfamiliar surroundings! Even in a large, mixed stable with 180 horses, Rio shows no stallion behaviour whatsoever! The horse comes from the very best breeding and has a clear head and a great character. Of course, Rio has been fully tested with all X-rays and is also free of piroplasmosis. He has full PSL papers with a top pedigree and comes from the best breeding!

RIO DA NORINHA is a horse with extraordinary origins.

His sire is the son of XAQUIRO, who is considered one of the most influential stallions in the PSL breed. 

He is the creator of a highly valued bloodline that currently dominates modern Lusitano breeding. 

For this reason, he was awarded the title of ‘Stallion of Merit’ by the APSL, rewarding his continuous production of exceptional specimens of the highest quality, many of them champions in the discipline of dressage.

XAQUIRO's descendants are characterised by their beauty, flexibility, strength and class, which, together with their quality of movement and outstanding learning ability,  make them stand out in sport. 

In fact, his offspring and grandchildren have achieved outstanding success in competition, both in dressage and morphology, winning multiple gold medals and Champion of Champions titles.

Proof of this are his descendants SPARTACUS and ESCORIAL, who have also had a great impact on Lusitano horse breeding, as demonstrated by the quality of their offspring. 

They have consolidated a proven bloodline.

For this reason, the APSL awarded the three horses a 5-STAR rating as stallions of high genetic value.

This well-deserved recognition is no coincidence, as SPARTACUS has a very remarkable sporting career, achieving magnificent results in important international events like such as the Sunshine Tour, CDI Beloura and the Verden Small Tour.

It is also worth noting that he was the first horse to win the Champion of Champions title three times in a row.

Recently, his son ESCORIAL represented Portugal in the world's most prestigious arenas, attracting international attention for his beauty, skill and sporting qualities.

 His good temperament and intelligence, as well as his outstanding ability for collected movements, did not go unnoticed by the rigorous Central European studbooks, such as Westphalia, Oldenburg and Hanover, who rewarded him by making him the first Lusitano stallion approved for breeding.

Current examples of the high genetic quality of this breeding line include NUELO DAS LEZIRIAS, ORION DE LA GESSE and OPORTO D'ATELA, among others, which are already beginning to shine on the sporting scene.

On the other hand, the paternal grandmother QUIETA is the daughter of ESTOIRO, another 5* stallion, which represents a cross of high-quality genetic lines. 

Let us remember that ESTOIRO is the brother of the proven HOSTIL, who in turn is the sire of RIOPELE.

Both are sons of ZICO, descendants of NILO and FIRME, two true leaders of the breed. 

It is well known that they are very influential stallions within the PSL, members of a line of producers of high-performance specimens. 

These stallions are known for transmitting nobility and a special talent for passage and piaffe.

We cannot forget the importance of RIO DA NORINHA's maternal line, as her dam is a daughter of the great OPUS-72.

This stallion left his mark on the PSL breed, contributing quality of movement, character, beauty and heart. 

OPUS-72 was that exceptional horse that conveyed strength, artistry and beauty.

 He had the temperament of the great artists, capable of conveying that special emotion to horse lovers.

 He was undoubtedly a horse with a lot of class, but surprisingly noble and easy to handle in the stable.

For all these reasons, he is considered an iconic stallion and a fundamental pillar on which Lusitano horse breeding is based.

The result of all this rigorous genetic selection work is inherited in RIO DA NORINHA, in whom we can observe those qualities so desired in a horse: breed, movement, strength, balance, flexibility, class and a temperament that gives him extraordinary abilities to succeed in sport.
