Clutch keeps it with everything else. "Chromin N Clutch", better known as Clutch, is a 2020 AQHA red roan gelding with the gentle mind, smooth ride, and big personality to back up that first impression. Clutch is easy to like before you ever get on him. He is kind, gentle, and good-natured, with a warm, curious personality that makes people stop and pay attention. He walks up like he has been waiting on you all morning, stands quietly while you saddle, bridle and get yourself organized, then carries that same willing attitude into the saddle. Clutch makes sense whether you are riding in the arena, cruising outside, or taking off down the trail. He has been ridden outside, been around cattle, gathered some, and has plenty of real-world miles, but what sets him apart is how good he feels to ride. He is not just “smooth” in the generic horse ad way. He is genuinely one of the easiest, softest-moving horses I have been on. He has that super slow, cadenced jog you can sit all day, but will willingly travel out into a trot or extended trot and come back down when asked. His lope is slow, steady, rolling, and easy to enjoy. He travels around balanced, has seamless lead departures, a good neck rein, an easy stop and backs up willingly. He is broke enough to be enjoyable, but still simple enough that you do not have to overthink riding him. And honestly, when you look at his papers, the way he moves makes a lot of sense. Clutch is by Mr Chromesmal, a son of Chromesmal, who earned money in the cutting pen and sired multiple money earners. On the bottom side, he carries the kind of pleasure and all-around blood that shows up in how he travels. His dam is by Good To The Max, a Superior earner with over 100 APHA points, an AQHA Superior WP award, 10 All Arounds, multiple circuit championships, and points in Western Riding. Add in Zippos Mr Good Bar and A Good Machine, and you get exactly what Clutch feels like under saddle: soft, cadenced, pretty-moving, and good-minded. Outside the arena, that same steady mind has shown up again and again. Clutch has been good down the trail, good out in the open, and steady in new settings we have introduced him to. Creeks, ponds, bridges, steep embankments, traffic, dogs, wildlife, machinery, obstacle courses, tarps, balls, and new scenery, he has taken it all in stride here. He has also been hauled out to ride at different arenas and on the trail, and he is great with other horses traveling around, by, and past him. Clutch is ridden a few times a week as time allows and has been easy to keep going without needing a rigid program. I think he would be a blast to haul to some weekend ranch shows, too. He has the movement, look, and attitude to be a fun prospect for ranch trail and ranch rail classes, and that red roan color sure will not hurt him any in front of a judge. He is pretty enough to get noticed, broke enough to be enjoyable, and steady enough to let you actually go have fun instead of just survive the class. Clutch has been refreshingly gentle in the everyday ways that matter. He is the same horse when life gets a little noisy or inconvenient, which is something I value a lot. I have led him alongside the stroller with my baby in it, crawled on him bareback from a lawn chair in shorts and tennis shoes, and used the leaf blower on him without getting much of a reaction at all. When we rode over the parachute, he stayed relaxed and curious enough to try picking it up with his mouth. That is what makes him easy to trust. He does not just tolerate life going on around him. He handles it with a kind, willing, good-minded attitude and still keeps that little bit of personality that makes him fun. He is the same kind of pleasant on the ground that he is under saddle. Clutch loads good, is quiet to saddle and bridle, stands quietly to mount, and will even let you pull up a stool if you need it. He is patient while you get everything together to go ride, good in a stall, enjoys being turned out, picks up his feet, and stands well for the farrier. If we are being fair, every horse has a quirk, and Clutch’s is bath time. He takes a minute to decide the hose is not ruining his day, then settles in and handles it. He gets along with other horses and is pretty much a friend to all. He is easy to have around day to day. Clutch would make a great fit for someone wanting a gentle, dependable trail partner, a smooth gelding with enough handle to stay fun, something to help with some ranch chores, or one to go enjoy at the weekend ranch shows. He is not one-dimensional, and that is a big part of what makes him so easy to like. Clutch stands 15.2 hands and is up to date on all care with records available. He has good feet, is currently shod, is sound, and a veterinary statement is included. He has no maintenance, no special care, and no special feed requirements. Just a straightforward, easy-keeping gelding with no special program required here. You do not have to talk yourself into liking Clutch. He makes a good first impression, then keeps giving you reasons to like him. He is pretty, personable, broke, gentle, comfortable, and leaves an impression for all the right reasons. Clutch is located in Amarillo, Texas, and we would love for you to come ride him and meet him in person. Please call or text Cheyenne with any questions. We are happy to help line up transport and make sure everything is handled smoothly from our place to yours.
